Hope In Troubled Times

Our church has set aside 14 days to fast and pray during the crisis in the nation and world. Every day our pastor posts a different prayer focus with associated Scriptures to guide our prayer time.

As I was praying through the list of verses related to hope, something in I Peter 1:3 caught my eye. The verse reads, Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His abundant mercy has begotten us again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead.

If anyone wonders why we can have hope, just read again the words of this man who had lost all hope. Peter denied Jesus and then saw Him die on the cross, saw Him sealed in a tomb, and went home broken, sorrowful, and hopeless. He writes that God has “begotten us again to a LIVING hope.” A living hope, a hope that speaks life, a hope that energizes. A hope that can be LIVING because it springs from the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead.

Peter wasn’t someone who wrote history a few hundred years after the fact. He was there, he experienced the hopelessness of death, the finality of losing everything that he had given three years of his life to follow. He was an eyewitness of LIFE! He says he saw Jesus Christ alive and that LIVING hope has been given to us when we also believe in Christ.

This disease that has stricken fear into so many hearts is not the winner and is not the end. Jesus is the Savior who conquered death and, for all those who trust in Him, He has begotten us again to the same LIVING hope. Look up! Jesus is alive and you and I and everyone who trusts in Jesus will get to share in the same resurrection!

Thanks, Pastor Dustin for sharing the Scriptures of hope. I prayed through them asking the Father to help everyone grasp this hope. Just a thought.
