Thought for the Week October 8, 2017

I am very excited about our Missions Celebration week which kicked off on Saturday and Sunday. The Understanding Islam Seminar on Saturday offered many insights about average Muslim people that we don’t hear in the media nor get from our own interactions or non-interactions with Muslims. Mark Cannon, who has worked with Muslim people for over 10 years, shared how kind and hospitable most Muslim folks are and how readily they will discuss the things of God. This is the kind of thing we need to hear as we make it our aim to Make Jesus Known.

This Sunday, William Pepper, who has been a missionary all over the globe for around 50 years will be here to share his experiences and insights. Would you make it a priority to be here? We only do this once a year and missions is such a great part of the Great Commission which commands us to go into all the world with the Gospel. Is there anything that is more important than giving missions first place in your life for one Sunday a year?

This is the week that we give everyone an opportunity to personally be a part of world-wide missions by making a Faith Promise to financially support missionaries for the coming year. Christian Chapel has supported well over 20 foreign and 8-10 U.S. missionaries annually since 2002 solely with your Faith Promises. This puts you directly in support of what God is doing and results in you receiving the same rewards given the missionaries when lives are changed.

We whole-heartedly believe that your direct faithful support of missions has resulted in blessing for Christian Chapel every year. The wonderful facility you worship in, the ministries you participate in, the influence you have in your community, all are a result of missions giving. The financial blessings your church receives begin by you being blessed because of your involvement in missions and then you blessing the church. Missions drives the financial engine of your church.

So I urge you again to make it a point to be here on Sunday. Pray, beginning now, to ask the Lord what He wants you to put as your Faith Promise for 2018. If work or travel or illness keeps you away on Sunday (should anything else keep you away?), you can still make a Faith Promise. You can pick up a Faith Promise Card the next time you are here and hand that in or you can contact our bookkeeper, Sue Calvert at and tell her what you Faith Promise will be. We need everyone in the church, adults, teens, and even children to be partners with our missionaries so they can go where we can’t

I trust I will see you here Sunday. Missions is exciting! Just a thought.
