Thought for the Week March 5, 2017

Pastor Doug, Spiritual Life Pastor, sitting in for Pastor Tom, Lead Pastor this week.

“Lessons from My Cats”… Yep, that’s where this weeks’ “thought” came from. The past several days, my cats have been following me around constantly asking me to feed them. Granted, I do not speak “cat”, however, like all felines they have “trained” me well.

My household has specified times when the cats should eat. However, when we are home all day or around longer than usual, two thoughts pop into their little cat minds… “Must be time to eat” and “It cannot hurt to ask”. I got almost hoarse telling them “No”… “No!!”… “No!!!”, and would you not know it, they seemingly have lost their ability to understand human speech.

Here’s the “kicker” or point… They know that I or my wife Jean is going to feed them. We always have, always will. They have yet to go without food. It is simply not the right time yet.

It dawned on me after this exchange with the cats that “this will preach”. Here are two things that the Holy Spirit reminded me about: “I will answer them before they even call to me. While they are still talking about their needs, I will go ahead and answer their prayers.” (Isaiah 65:24, NLT) and “…for your Father knows exactly what you need even before you ask him.” (Matthew 6:8, NLT)

How many times have we cried out to God about something and just because we do not get it exactly the way and when we want it, God must have said “No!”?

God’s Word (The Bible), says that He knows the right time… “When we were utterly helpless, Christ came at just the right time and died for us sinners.” (Romans 5:6, NLT) “But when the right time came, God sent his Son, born of a woman, subject to the law.” (Galatians 4:4, NLT) [*italics mine]

Maybe we should be open to hearing God tell us, “Yes”, “No” or “Not yet” in answer to our prayer(s). What are you asking God for that has yet (to your timing or way of thinking) be answered? Might it be in the “Not yet” category? Trust God, He knows the Mar.
