Thought For The Week

Pastor Doug, Spiritual Life Pastor at Christian Chapel, sitting in for Pastor Tom this week.

As 2017 rolled in, I began to sense an urgency within me to be someone that not only memorizes Scripture, but lives it out. Here are two that are really driving me:

“Figure out what will please Christ, and then do it.” (Ephesians 5:10, MSG)

“But you must stay focused and be alert at all times. Tolerate suffering. Accomplish the good work of an evangelist, and complete the ministry to which you have been called.”  (2 Timothy 4:5, VOICE)

Why you might ask this newfound sense of urgency? First, it’s not newfound as much as Holy Spirit dialed up and second, I believe that my answer comes from Scripture.

[8] But you must not forget this one thing, dear friends: A day is like a thousand years to the Lord, and a thousand years is like a day. [9] The Lord isn’t really being slow about his promise, as some people think. No, he is being patient for your sake. He does not want anyone to be destroyed, but wants everyone to repent. (2 Peter 3:8-9, NLT)

We know that the Apostles in the New Testament lived as if the Lord Jesus would return the next day. Well, it has been over 2,000 years since He (Jesus) left this earth and I have to wonder just how many pages are left on God the Father’s calendar.

In closing, I believe that it is time for The Church (Jesus’ Church) particularly in the United States to “complete the ministry to which we have been called (see Matthew 28:19-20).”

I am in no way predicting any dates for His return… but I can “discern the times” (Matthew 16:3).

What is your Holy Spirit driven sense of urgency? Are you doing what pleases Christ?

So glad that we are in this together.
