Thought For The Week January 26, 2014

This has been an eventful last two weeks. On Saturday, January 11, after a workout at the local gym, I began to experience a very rapid heartbeat that would not go down. After driving to the Emergency Room, I was told that my heart was in atrial fibrilation and that I would have to spend some time there until it could be brought under control. Three days later, I was released with the heart beat regular and an appointment to see a cardiologist.

Needless to say, the onset of this and the time under treatment was somewhat trying. I think the hardest part was not knowing why it was happening and not being able to do anything except let the medical professionals do their job. During the anxious times, the Lord guided me to keep a song in my heart. The song “10,000 Reasons” came to me in the ER, and I began to sing it in my heart. The more I sang unto the Lord, the calmer I would become. Through the stay, whenever something was not going right, the song came back to me, “Bless the Lord, O my soul, O my soul, worship His holy Name. Sing like never before, O my soul, worship His holy Name. I worship your holy Name.” I can tell you that the song brought me close to the Lord so I could trust that no matter what happened, He had me in His hand.

Two days after I came home, my laptop computer had a hard drive malfunction. It appears to be totally corrupted. The next day my desk top computer had the same kind of thing happen. These two problems caused me to have to recreate about six hours of work that I had done just prior to each incident. It’s amazing how much we rely on computers today.

I share all this not to cry or complain but to add that the Lord is still in control. Psalm 46:10-11 still applies, no matter what is happening – Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth! The LORD of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our refuge. It becomes very real to you when you are on your back and helpless, or in front of a the black or blue screen of death without a clue, that if you just sit still, God is on the throne, He is exalted and He has not left us. We can run to Him at any time and He comforts and protects us, no matter what.

I wanted to pass this on because it was up close and personal for me and I wanted to encourage you. That’s my thought for you. Any for me?
