Thought for the Week March 31, 2013

In I Corinthians 15, Paul said, I passed on to you what was most important and what had also been passed on to me. Christ died for our sins, just as the Scriptures said. He was buried, and he was raised from the dead on the third day, just as the Scriptures said. This is the amazing story we re-read, recall, and celebrate this week.

This is the full story of the Gospel – Jesus Christ, the only begotten Son of God, died for our sins. He died to pay a price that we could not pay. As testament to His death He was buried and on the third day in approval of His sacrifice He was raised from the dead! All of this was “just as the Scriptures said.” This was not something contrived by Him and His followers but was precise fulfillment of prophecies that had been given hundreds of years earlier. It was all done according to God’s eternal plan of redemption.

The great news is – He is risen! The best news is – He is risen! The most important news is – He is risen! Friends, many over the course of history have given their lives for the sake of others. Some nobly and other for not so noble reasons. The fact that Jesus died for us is vitally important because no one else could pay for sin with His life. But, if He stayed dead, the act would have little to no impact. How many would have given up their lives for a dead Savior?

But, if He is alive, as the Scriptures say, that’s a whole different story. His followers told the world that they had seen Him alive. They kept on saying it even as their lives were taken. This one truth made it worthwhile for in another place Paul said, Since we died with Christ, we know we will also live with him. We are sure of this because Christ was raised from the dead, and he will never die again. (Romans 6:8-9). Did you see that? Because Christ was raised from the dead and will never die, we are sure that we also will live with Him! Now there’s a reason to celebrate!

I’m going to keep this week’s thought short. Here’s the long and short of it – He is risen! That’s all you really need to know. Take some time to really think about what that means to everyone who believes in Jesus. That’s worth a lot of thinking time! God bless you!
